Separate casual, athletic and underwear shorts
Check the intended use, lining and pockets before sizing. A compression or underwear short is not directly comparable with a loose woven short. Start with a similar pair you already own and the exact size option on the listing.
Ask what the waist figure represents
A flat waistband width is not the full circumference. Elasticated waists may have relaxed and stretched values. As a hypothetical conversion example, 38 cm flat is 76 cm around; this does not mean that a listed size fits a 76 cm body waist.
Measure front rise and inseam
Front rise runs from the crotch seam to the top of the front waistband. Inseam runs along the inside leg from the crotch to the hem. Check the seller’s measuring points, since the waistband position changes where the hem falls.
Add outseam and leg opening
Outseam measures along the outside of the garment; leg opening describes the width at the hem. Record whether an opening is a flat width or circumference. Compare the combination with your reference shorts rather than deciding from the model photograph.
Resolve fit questions on the exact option
Request a ruler photo when waist or length is close to your preference. Confirm the selected size, liner and waistband adjustment on the live record. Product titles and reference prices do not provide these missing measurements.
